Honey bee veterinary services

WHY DO HONEY BEES NEED A VETERINARIAN?

In 2017 the Veterinary Feed Directive was passed and which no longer allows bee keepers to get needed antibiotics over the counter. As a result beekeepers are now required to go through a veterinarian for antibiotics.

Dr. Chilla is hoping to service the greater southwest Michigan area beekeepers. During veterinary school at Michigan State University she helped create the veterinary student bee club and pushed to get honey bee medicine into the school's curriculum. She is a member of the Honey Bee Veterinary Consortium and is also a member of the local Kalamazoo Bee Club. Currently, she is hoping to get more information to the public as to how veterinarians can work with beekeepers to ensure the health and safety of honey bee hives.

How it works

  • If you are a beekeeper or know of someone that may need antibiotics please feel free to contact the our clinic at 269-345-6220 or email us at eastmainah@gmail.com for an inquiry. We can set up an initial visit to your apiary and Dr. Chilla will do a thorough inspection of your hives and further testing if needed.
  • We can then work with your local feed mill to provide the appropriate antibiotics

NEW CLIENTS AND PATIENTS

Due to the current busy state of the veterinary world, we are currently putting a temporary freeze on accepting clients transferring from other veterinary clinics. However, we are still accepting new patients including puppies and kittens looking to establish with a veterinarian. We absolutely love and appreciate all our current clients and want to make sure we have the time and energy to offer the best quality services to them. As soon as we are able to lift this temporary freeze, we will let you know. Thank you for understanding and being patient with us.
